Recently listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Gwen Frostic Studio is being offered for sale. The business is being sold turn-key and includes the real estate, printed inventory, equipment including 15 Heidelberg Presses, and all copyrights. The retail store, printing shop, and warehouses all service the popular works of Gwen Frostic, who opened the business at this location in 1964. Gwen passed away in 2001 but her legacy continues with the 2200 linoleum blocks that she carved and are still used today to print the greeting cards and other works that sell in the shop and through the website. The studio has brought millions of visitors and sits on almost 12 acres with the retail store, library, printing shop, warehouses, and the roundhouse which was built with a sod roof.

Gwen Frostic

Sara Gwendolen Frostic was born in Sandusky MI on April 26, 1906.  She was a physically disable artist, author, poet and businesswoman who was inspired by what nature had to offer.  She would sketch animals, plants and natural scenes and then carve the images on linoleum blocks.  The Heidleburg presses in the shop print cards, books and other stationary items to be sold through Presscraft Papers and Gewn Frostic Prints.  Gwen was inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame in 1986.  In 1978 Michigan's Govenor WIlliam Milliken proclaimed May 23 as Gwen Frostic Day.  Gwen graduated from Western University and donated more than 13 million dollars to the University who built the Gwen Frostic School of Art in her honor.   Ms Frostic passed away peacefully on April 25, 2001 one day before her 95th birthday.
